CAQM Issues Stricter Emission Mandate for Industries: In New Delhi, February 21, 2026: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued a statutory direction prescribing stricter particulate matter (PM) emission norms for industries across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced that the Commission has established a uniform particulate matter emission standard of 50 milligrams per normal cubic metre (mg/Nm³) for identified industries.

This decision follows recommendations from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which were based on studies conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and inputs from a Technical Committee constituted by the CPCB.

The Commission observed that industrial stack emissions are a significant contributor to elevated particulate matter levels and secondary particulate formation in the Delhi-NCR region, which adversely impacts regional air quality.

According to the Ministry, the revised standard is expected to significantly reduce industrial emissions and contribute to the abatement of air pollution, benefiting those residing near industrial sources and improving overall regional air quality.
